Hello. I’m the author of the acclaimed book Alternate Channels, about the fight for lesbian and gay visibility on 20th-century TV, and about the few identifiably bi and trans roles on TV in those years. The first edition was a semifinalist for what is now the Stonewall Book Award. A revised edition came out in 2020.

I was also the lead historical consultant for Visible: Out on Television, the 2020 docuseries on Apple TV+.

I give traveling lectures with lots of video clips, exploring how television’s LGBTQ portrayals have evolved over time, from the early days to the streaming era.
